Experimenting in Illustrator - Batman and Mickey Mouse Logo

In preparation for Year 13, I developed my skills in both Illustrator and Photoshop.  Photoshop is a program which I have used before and am relatively familiar with, however I had never used Illustrator before so as a beginner, I was tasked with creating the Batman logo and the Mickey Mouse logo.
To create the Batman logo in illustrator, I first used the ellipse tool to create a horizontal ellipse to form the base of the logo. I then used the same tool to make another smaller ellipse at an angle which I will then later take away from the base. I copy and pasted the same smaller ellipse and then rotated it slightly more than the first one to create the bottom of the logo.

From here, I went from right-click to transform and then to reflect. I flipped the ellipses vertically which gave me the ellipses for the other side of the logo. I then arranged all four of the ellipses so they formed a ‘V’ shape for the bottom of the logo. I then selected both ellipses and using the shape builder tool, selected the bottom of the ellipse at the bottom. I used the selection tool to select and then delete the bottom of the ellipses; this formed the bottom of the logo. As this bit was probably the most difficult, I won’t go into detail about the making of the rest of the logo. To finish it off, I used the ellipse tool, pen tool and the shape builder tool to make the rest of the shapes and then take them away from the base, leaving me with the final logo below:

To develop my skills further, I attempted to make the Mickey Mouse logo which was a bit more difficult than the Batman logo. Here is my final design:

First to make the outline of the face I used the Ellipse tool and the shift button to make an accurate circle. After this, I used the ellipse tool again to create two smaller circles to make the ears. I first made one circle and just copy and pasted it. I then arranged the shapes to resemble the face shape. I then used the window tab to find the pathfinder tool and grouped all of the shapes and then clicked the unite button. After this I just filled the shape in black. I then used the
